Dr.  Brenda Nelson is the Head of Anatomic Pathology at the Naval Medical Center, San Diego, California.  She received her DDS from the University of Minnesota in 1995. Following graduation she was commissioned in the United States Navy, completing an Advanced Education in General Dentistry. In 2002 she completed residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at the Naval Post Graduate Dental School in Bethesda, Maryland. At this time she was awarded a masters degree from The George Washington University. In 2003, Dr. Nelson completed a fellowship in Endocrine and Otorhinolaryngic-Head and Neck Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington DC. Over the next three years she was on the faculty of the Naval Post Graduate Dental School and an adjunct assistant professor at The George Washington University. Upon leaving the dental school, she was awarded the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence in 2006. Dr. Nelson is the author and co-author of numerous scientific journal publications and books. Dr. Nelson is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and a member of the Head and Neck Society of North America.
