Dr. David Lucas is Professor and Director of Surgical Pathology at the University of Michigan Hospital and Health System in Ann Arbor. He is also Program Director of the Surgical Pathology Fellowship and Medical Director of Histology. His areas of diagnostic expertise are bone and soft tissue pathology. These are also his research interests, and he acts as study pathologist for several multi-institutional clinical trials. He has over 80 peer-reviewed publications and multiple book chapters, and is a primary author of Diagnostic Pathology of Soft Tissue Tumors. Dr. Lucas received his MD from Wayne State University in Detroit where he also completed a residency in Anatomic Pathology. He then went to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester for two years and did fellowships in Surgical and Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology. His professional career began at Wayne State University where he practiced Surgical and Anatomic Pathology, directed the immunohistochemistry laboratory, and developed and directed the sophomore medical school curriculum in Connective Tissue Diseases. He has been at the University of Michigan since 2003 where he has a busy consultation practice and serves on the Anatomic Pathology operations committee in addition to his teaching responsibilities.
