Dr. Joel K. Greenson, MD is Professor of Pathology at the University of Michigan. He received his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Michigan, did his pathology residency training at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles and completed a 2-year fellowship in GI pathology at Johns Hopkins University under the mentorship of Dr. John Yardley. After becoming Assistant Professor of Pathology at Ohio State University, he returned to the University of Michigan where he is currently Professor of Pathology. Dr. Greenson is a co-editor of Sternberg’s Diagnostic Surgical Pathology and serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Human Pathology, and the American Journal of Clinical Pathology. He has also edited and co-written a text book entitled Diagnostic Pathology: Gastrointestinal. He is a past president of the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society (GIPS) and on the test committee of the American Board of Pathology. Dr. Greenson’s primary research interests include inflammatory/infectious lesions of the gut, the molecular epidemiology of colorectal cancer, pancreas cancer, and hepatitis C. In this regard, he has received NIH funding to study many of these topics, has authored over 130 peer-reviewed articles, numerous book chapters as well as review articles on various topics in GI pathology, and has given over 50 invited national and international lectures.
